10TB Raid 6 Array

logo

Been a busy week – nothing like getting elbow deep in computer guts to clear your head from coding, this week aptly demonstrates that.

My main client has a big 8TB Sun Storedge raid array, unfortunately the way it was setup (4 x 2TB partitions) is starting to cause problems for them as the main partitions are filling up very quickly and being so ridgidly partitioned isnt really ideal. So (more as a backup than anything else) we decided to build ourselves a basic raid array.

We took 12 x 1TB drives, and a raid controller and built a beast of an array with it, the array itself finished building the other day and has taken the majority of today to format it while I transferred over the various other system files required to ensure that it can be a drop in replacement for the current server should anything go drastically wrong on it.

Dim Sum Restaurant in Birmingham

logo

Was looking around online for a decent Dim Sum Restaruant in Birmingham before the weekend and was pretty shocked when even the Dim Sum Association website (yes there is a dim sum association!) only mentioned “MUST Dim Sum Restaurant”.

I have been to Must and it is over priced and more of a bar than somewhere to go and get quality Dim Sum.

So on my little Dim Sum mission I checked out the menu of my favourite chinese restaurant (Chung Ying Garden), it is often voted as the best chinese restaurant for chinese people in Birmingham.

Their Dim Sum menu is fantastic – at least 60 different dishes so on my visit last night I went for some tasty Siu Mai, BBQ Pork Buns, and some steamed prawn and chive dumplings.

So if you are looking for a decent dim sum restaurant in Birmingham please check out this restaurant – it really is fantastic!

Bit of an update

logo

Just wanted to update everyone as to what we are currently up to in the world of Nu Order Webs.

Dan (Me) is currently still working on a huge project for http://www.singtotheworld.com which is the redevelopment of a site called http://www.yoosing.com. It is being built from scratch in cakePHP. So far it has taken 4 months of development to get where I am, but in addition to other duties at Sing To The World I dont think its that bad considering it took a team of over 6 developers to code the original site 6 months. Matt is also doing SEO for them – however the current site is inflexible in it’s structure to allow for the necessary changes to be made as it is so for now the SEO consists of link building, article writing and other off site stuff.

We have been asked to quote on several other projects including a couple for a fun fair hire company, and a regular client of ours (http://www.recruitmentrevolution.com).

We are also currently developing a site for the owners of http://www.anythingequine.co.uk (another of our sites) which will be focused around equine dentistry blades, tools and accessories – aptly named http://www.equinedentistryblades.co.uk.

So all in all pretty busy at Nu Order towers but as always we love our work and in this time of recession love the extra money it brings in for not only us but for our clients aswell :)

Peace
